According to immigration papers, Felix (Shraga Feivish) Birnbaum and his family came from Ternopil, in Galicia, but cemetery records show his country of origin as Moldova (Bessarabia).

Event Note

Felix Shraga Feivish Birnbaum and his family arrived in Montreal, and rented a flat next to the Rosen family, the only people knew in Montreal.
Years later, Hymie Rosen became a pharmacist, like Dave, Joe and Stanley Birnbaum, and opened a pharmacy on Queen Mary Road,
No one has been able to tell whether the Birnbaums knew or knew of the Rosen family from Galicia, or from contacts they had made during their voyage to Montreal.
The Richman family, who also knew the Rosens, moved in next door, and two of the boys, Morrie and Lou Richman , who changed the family name to Richmond, who had come to Montreal from Kyiv, went to school with David and Joe Birnbaum.

Stanley Birnbaum cites: "One night, when his grandfather was older and frail, Felix Shraga Feivish Birnbaum woke from his bed to go to the bathroom. He walked through the apartment alone in the dark. Make his way to the bathroom, he opened what he thought was the bathroom door, and stepped in. It wasn't the bathroom, it was the stairway to the ground floor, and he ended up, at the bottom of the stairs."
