Narrative
The Ponevezh yeshiva, a notable Haredi yeshiva in Lithuania, was established and Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman the "Ponovezher Rov", irosh yeshiva and president, rebuilt the Ponevezh yeshiva in Bnei Brak, after the War.

On June 15, 1940, Russian military forces took over Panevėžys, and forced incorporation of Lithuania into the Soviet Union.
Political prisoners were murdered near the sugar factory, or were exiled to Siberia.

Panevėžys was occupied by German forces, acquired the designation of Gebietskommissariate, within the Reichskommissariat Ostland.
In 1943, during the Nazi occupation, nearly all the Jewish population was exterminated.
