In 1874, SS Gellert was launched for Deutsche Transatlantische Dampfschiffahrts-Gesellschaft (Adler Line).

On May 26, 1875, SS Gellert sailed from Hamburg, on her maiden voyage Hamburg-Havre-New York Atlantic voyage.
