Iraqi general, Fawzi al-Kawukji, and his Army of Salvation, entered the Jezriel Valley, and besieged kibbutz Mishmar haEmek קיבוץ משמר העמק, an attractive target, as capturing kibbutz Mishmar haEmek קיבוץ משמר העמק would have made it possible to block Wadi Milik, through which traffic to the north of the country and to Haifa passed at the time.
