Narrative

In 1868, a German Christian sect tried to settle near Tel Sarid תל שריד), near the ruins of Khirbet Huneifis خربة, but, encountering hardships, succumbing to sickness and Malaria, they evacuated the site.

Narrative

In 1926, kibbutz Sarid קיבוץ שריד was established west of Tel Shaddud, by members of Kvutzat Achva, from Czechoslovakia, Poland and Russia.
The name comes from the biblical city of Sarid, in the southern part of the tribe of Zebulun (Joshua 19:10).
"And the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families; and the border of their inheritance was unto Sarid. And their border went up westward, even to Maralah, and reached to Dabbesheth; and it reached to the brook that is before Jokneam. And it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising unto the border of Chisloth-tabor; ...".
During its first twenty years, the kibbutz made a living from non-irrigated field crops.
