Narrative

In the 18th century, Glasgow grew into one of Britain's main hubs of transatlantic trade with British North America and the British West Indies.
With the Industrial Revolution, Glasgow, and surrounding region, shifted to become a pre-eminent centre of Heavy Engineering, notably in the Shipbuilding and Marine engineering industry.
Daniel Defoe opined in A tour thro' the Whole Island of Great Britain, that Glasgow was "the cleanest and beautifullest, and best built city in Britain, London excepted."
