Narrative

At dawn of March 14, 1978, the IDF launched Operation Stone of Wisdom, renamed Operation Litani, occupying the territory south of the Litani River, excepting Tyre, with over 25,000 soldiers.
The stated goals were to push Palestinian militant groups, particularly the PLO, away from the border with Israel, and to bolster Israel's ally, the South Lebanon Army because of the attacks against Lebanese Christians and Jews and because of the relentless shelling into Northern Israel.
During the 7-day offensive, the IDF troops captured a belt of land approximately 10 kilometres deep,
This was later extended north to the Litani river, pushing back the PLO.
20 Israeli soldiers died in the operatiion.

Narrative

The UN Security Council passed Resolutions 425 and 426, calling for withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon.
UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was created to restore peace and sovereignty to Lebanon.
On March 23, 1978, UNIFIL forces arrived in Lebanon, abd set up headquarters in Naqura.
Israeli forces withdrew later that year, turning over positions inside Lebanon tothe South Lebanon Army (SLA),under Major Saad Haddad.
