Narrative

On January 9, 1968, INS Dakar began her maiden voyage from the Portsmouth Shipyards to Israel, with 69 crew members, including 11 officers, and Commander Yaakov Raanan יעקב רענן.
During routine sailing, submarine communications audit were secheduled every 6 hours, and 12 hours of transmissions were dispatched to indicate exact position.

On January 24, 1968, at 06:10AM, INS Dakar transmitted her position, 34.16°N 26.26°E, just east of Crete.

On January 26, 1968, the British Admiralty reported INS Dakar missing, and gave her last known position as 100 miles (160 km) west of Cyprus.
On February 4, 1968, after four days of Israeli search operations for INS Dakar, all Navy vessels and Air Force planes returned to their home base.
On March 6, 1968, Minister of Defense, Moshe Dayan, officially declared in the Knesset that INS Dakar and her crew were lost.
