Narrative
On March 17, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, who held the defense portfolio in the Jewish Agency Executive, and leader of the Haganah הגנה, ordered the creation of a Naval Service שירות הים, and insisted upon disengaging the Palmach from naval operations, and moving the Palyam פלי"ם to a naval force under command of the General Staff.
Most Palyam פלי"ם members were ordered to join the Naval Service שירות הים.
Gershon Zak was appoined Director מנהל of the a Naval Service שירות הים.
