Event Note

As a Zionist, Dr. Abel J. Herzberg was put on the list of 1,300 Jews available to be sent to Palestine in exchange for German citizens held as prisoners by the Allies.
He was on the list of 272 Jews selected in April 1944 to go to Palestine, but when 50 names were crossed off the list, Dr. Abel J. Herzberg was sent back into the Star Camp with the other Dutch Jews.

Dr. Abel J. Herzberg survived the war,and returned to being a lawyer in Amsterdam.
He published the diary that he kept in Bergen-Belsen under the title of Tweestromenland., translated into English as Bergen-Belsen from 1943 - 1945.
