After arrival in Bâcău, Rifka Glatter joined a group in the school dormitory preparing to travel to Palestine, but she came down with scarlet fever, and taken to the hospital.
Two weeks later, when she returned to the school dormitory, she learned that her group had left for Constanţa, where they were to board Struma.

Rifka Glatter cites having been approached, while on board Taurus טאורוס, by a man who told her that he had been interned in Tiraspol Тирасполь prison with Sami Glatter, her father.
He claimed that tthey both had escaped, and her father had gone to Mohyliv-Podilskyi Могилів-Подільський to look for her.

In December, 1944, Rifka Glatter disembarked in Lebanon, and from there, travelled by train to Palestine, her destination, Atlit.
