Event Note

During World War II, Folke Bernadotte, Count of Wisborg, negotiated the release of 31,000 prisoners from German concentration camps.
He negotiated the release 423 Danish Jews from Theresienstadt, released on 14 April 1945.
On April 24, 1945, the Germans, transmitted, from Heinrich Himmler to Count Bernadotte, an offer to surrender to Britain and United States, but not to the Soviet Union, though the offer was ultimately rejected.
