Rather than go on his ski vacation in Switzerland, Nicholas Winton travelled to Praha to help a frind involved in Jewish refugee work.
He established an organization in Czechoslovakia to aid Jewish children.
Nicholas Winton rescued 669 refugee children during the Holocaust.
He placed advertisements and located families in England for the children, and managed to get several groups out.
The last group he put on a plane ,without having received all the necessary papers in time.
The group after that did not make it to safety.

Event Note

Nicholas Winton has been honoured by the Czech government.
He received an award from British Prime Minister Gordon Brown commemorating more than 20 British heroes of the Holocaust.

On May 6, 2010, Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda Synagogue, Toronto, honored Sir Nicholas Winton with its Yakir Hakahal (Precious to the Community) award at a gala dinner.
