Event Note

In the winter of 1947, Charles Weiss finished his sophomore year at Harvard, when Boston lawyer, Eddie Parsons, a member of kibbutz Kfar Blum, spoke to the Jewish students at a Hillel House meeting, and gave a recruiting call for the Haganah, "Come to Eretz Yisrael and serve for a year with the underground Jewish defense force'.

Charles Weiss was sent to a wharf in the port of Baltimore, to report to and board SS Trade Winds.
He served as fireman/ water tender aboard SS Trade Winds, a ship flying the Honduran flag, with false Honduran seaman's papers to match.
