Place Note

Chaim Weizmann held especially dear the creation of of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem as a solution for Russian Jewish youth, who had been excluded from Russian schools.
He lobbied for the founding of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
In 1913, the proposal to this effect was adopted by the 11th World Zionist Conference.

Event Note

Arthur Balfour and Chaim Weizmann met during one of Balfour's electoral campaigns.
Arthur Balfour supported the concept of a Jewish homeland, but felt that there would be more support among British politicians for the offer of a Jewish homeland in Uganda.
After mainstream Zionists rejected that proposal, Chaim Weizmann was credited with persuading then Foreign Ministe Arthur Balfourr, for British support for establishment of the Jewish homeland in Palestine, the original Zionist demand.
