Event Note

In 1957, Michael Barkai completed the Captain course קורס חובלים, and then served at the naval base in Eilat.
In 1959, Michael Barkai volunteered for the submarine corps, andserved on submarine No. 60 INS Rahav אח"י רהב, under Maor. Hadar Kimche הדר קמחי.
In 1963, he was appointed Deputy Commander, second in command under Yaakov Raanan יעקב רענן , and then Commander of INS Dakar אח"י דקר.
In 1967, he attended the Submarine Commanders' Course at the British Fleet.
In December, 1967, Michael Barkai replaced the Major Zeev Almog as Commander of INS Leviathan אח"י לוויתן.

Event Note

In 1971, Michael Barkai served in the Missile Boat fleet in Ashdod, and commanded the Missile Boats during the Yom Kippur War.
