Narrative

On July 31, 1946, Katriel Yaffe כתריאל יפה sailed from Bocca di Magra, carrying 604 passengers, among them Selvino children.

Narrative

On August 13, 1946, Katriel Yaffe כתריאל יפה reached territorial waters, and was intercepted by British ships.
Rozea Varda Wechtel cites: "Near Haifa, they heard airplanes flying above. They knew that they had been detected. British boats reached them and stopped them from entering the port while Haifa was clearly in sight."
She refused to stop, until HMS Volage fired a third warning of 40mm over her wheelhouse.
She was captured by HMS Talybont.
Lieutenant P.S. Hicks RN led the boarding party.

Narrative

The Maapilim on Katriel Yaffe כתריאל יפה and Kaf Gimel Yordei haSira were kept on the ships in Haifa for two weeks.
They had to wait until the British completed the deportation of the passengers on Yagur and Henrietta Szold,.
Rozea Varda Wechtel cites: "The passengers aboard the ships started to rebel. The British, in return, tried to calm them down by spraying them with strong streams of water. The British feared that the water might be too heavy for the ships and decided to transfer the passengers to British boats. They constructed a bridge."
The Maapilim were transferred to HMT Empire Rival.
