Nola Chilton is the daughter of Russian Jewish immigrants, who emigrated to the United States.

Nola Chilton studied acting with Lee Strasburg.
She began to work as a director with a mixed group of Whites and Blacks who dealt with Black issues.
She then went on to direct on Broadway and off-Broadway, and was considered to be an innovative director, particularly in her approach to instructing her actors.

After an unsuccessful attempt at working with the Cameri Theatre, Nola Chilton left to work and live in Kiryat Gat.
