Narrative

In 1012, kibbutz Ein Harod קיבוץ עין חרוד, was founded in 1912 close to the site of the crucial battle of Ain Jalut, the first major Mongol defeat in the Middle Ages.
The name, Ein Harod עין חרוד, was taken from the spring mentioned in the Bible as a place of judge Gideon (Judges 7:1). Mapam-supporting members formed Ein Harod Meuhad קיבוץ עין חרוד and Mapai-supporting members broke away to create Ein Harod Ihud עין חרוד איחוד, which joined the Mapai-affiliated Ihud haKvutzot ve haKibbutzim.
In 1921, 35 young people from Gdud haAvoda pitched tents at the Harod Spring and farmed the land.
Until 1929, the kibbutz remained there.
In 1930,t he collective moved to a permanent location at the foot of Kumi Hill.
Both kibbutz Ein Harod קיבוץ עין חרוד Meuhad and kibbutz Ein Harod קיבוץ עין חרוד Ihud Ihad belong to the same movement, the United Kibbutz Movement.
In September 2009, the members decided to privatize kibbutz Ein Harod קיבוץ עין חרוד Meuhad.

Narrative

Orde Charles Wingate put mixed (British and Jewish) units into the field, often leading them himself. "Wingate was the first to say the Jews would make good soldiers," cited Avraham Akavia, "Not even all the Jews thought that."
To the Jewish settlers, Wingate said, "We are establishing here the foundation of the Army of Zion. If it fights, it will achieve its independence in its land."
More than 100 Jewish non-commissioned officers attended the first course given by Wingate at kibbutz Ein Harod קיבוץ עין חרוד.
He taught the squads to make use of the night, when they would move on foot.
Instead of defensively guarding potential targets, they operated close to Arab villages, where the chance surprise was greater. Instead of waiting all night in fixed, usually futile, ambushes, they would undertake "mobile ambushes" - moving carefully until they spotted Arab bands and only then setting up an ambush.
"He taught us initiative -- that you don't go by the book, bur operate according to the circumstances," cited Avraham Akavia. "He set for us an example of a leader, not just a commander. He set the pattern of 'Follow me.'"
