In January, 1946, a displaced persons camp for Jewish death camp survivors was set up at the former German air force base in the Frankfurt district of the American-occupied zone, under the supervision of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA), which housed 1,770 Jews at its opening.
On April 26, 1949, the Eschwegge DP camp was closed.
