Narrative
In 1977, the land for Kiryas Joel קרית יואל, part of Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, was purchased, and fourteen Satmar families settled there.
The village was named for Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum, the rebbe of Satmar.
