In 1992, Shai Agassi founded TopTier Software, originally called Quicksoft Development.

Shai Agassi co-founded several other companies with his father, including:
Quicksoft Ltd., a multimedia software localization and distribution company in the Israeli market;
TopManage, a developer of small business software, which was acquired by SAP in April 2002; TopManage became SAP Business One, the small business offering by SAP;
Quicksoft Media, a multimedia production company that ceased operations in 1995.

At SAP AG, Shai Agassi was responsible for SAP's overall technology strategy and execution, overseeing development of the integration and application platform SAP NetWeaver, SAP xApps packaged composite applications, SAP SRM, and SAP Business One.
Before his appointment to the SAP Executive Board, he served as CEO of SAP Portals, and later of the combined company SAP Markets and SAP Portals, which had operated as a fully owned subsidiary of SAP AG.
In 2002, he was appointed to the SAP Executive Board.
Together with the head of the Application Platform & Architecture (AP&A) group, Peter Zencke, he co-led the Suite Architecture Team, which aligns the software architecture across all SAP solutions.
In 2007, after Henning Kagermann vacated that space, Shai Agassi was next in line for the position of CEO at SAP AG.
Mr. Kagermann's contract as CEO was extended until 2009 by the supervisory board, leading Shai Agassi to resign.

In October, 2007, Shai Agassi founded a company named Project Better Place, focusing on a green transportation infrastructure based on electric cars as an alternative to the current fossil fuel technology.
In January, 2008, the Israeli government announced support for a broad effort to promote the use of electric cars, embracing a joint venture between Better Place, Renault and Nissan Motor Company.
Renault and Better Place work on development of exchangeable batteries.

Atlantic Magazine named Better Place CEO Shai Agassi a "Brave Thinker," one of a group of people who are "risking careers, reputations, and fortunes to advance ideas that upend an established order."
TIME Magazine named Shai Agassi to the 2009 TIME 100, the world’s 100 most influential people, and one of TIME’s “Heroes of the Environment 2008."
Fast Company cited Shai Agassi third on its “100 Most Creative People in Business” list.
Scientific American Magazine named him to the 2009 Scientific American 10, a select group of 10 people who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to assuring the benefits of new technologies and knowledge will accrue to humanity.
