SS Shalom א/ק שלום was built for ZIM Lines צים שרותי ספנות משולבים בע"מ.
Launched: November 10, 1962, at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique, Saint-Nazaire
Deep sea trials: January 24, 1964
Eengine: placed two-thirds aft and two slim funnels placed side-by side, like SS Rotterdam and SS Canberra, which were under construction at the time the Shalom was being designed.
Hull and superstructure: optimized for the Atlantic Ocean
Promenade decks: glass-enclosed

In February, 1964, SS Shalom א/ק שלום was delivered to ZIM Lines צים שרותי ספנות משולבים בע"מ.
On March 3, 1964, SS Shalom א/ק שלום arrived at Haifa, from Saint-Nazaire, and having successfully completed her deep sea trials.

On March 20, 1964, SS Shalom א/ק שלום first operated a number of short cruises out of Haifa חיפה.

On April 17, 1964, SS Shalom א/ק שלום sailed from Haifa חיפה for New York, on her fully booked first Atlantic crossing.

In 1967, SS Shalom א/ק שלום was sold to the German Atlantic Line Hamburg-Atlantic Linie GmbH, becoming their second SS Hanseatic.
She then served as SS Doric for Home Lines, SS Royal Odyssey for Royal Cruise Line and SS Regent Sun for Regency Cruises.

In 1995, SS Shalom א/ק שלום was laid up, following the bankruptcy of Regency Cruises.

on 26 July 2001, SS Shalom א/ק שלום sunk outside Cape St. Francis, South Africa, while en-route to India to be scrapped.
