In 1937, Else Dobkowsky and herr family moved to Berlin.
Her mother immigrated to Portugal to live with her son, who 1933 was in a concentration camp, and later found refuge in O’ Porto.
Her son, age 16 years, left for Palestine with Youth Aliyah.

In 1935, Ester's mother, Else Dobkowsky, registered her, age 12 years, with the Child Immigration Department in Berlin for the Adoption to American families Plan.
In 1935, only 39 of 865 children, known today as One Thousand Children (OTC), were adopted by Americans.

In October, 1938, Ester applied for Youth Aliyah, and went to Ruednitz for a month of preparation, but two weeks after Kristallnacht, she was turned down by the reception committee because there were not enough Certificates.

In April, 1939, with the help of Recha Freier, under the auspices of Youth Aliyah, and as part of a Kindertransport, Ester went to Scotland.
In August, 1939, her sister was sent with a Kindertransport to a family in London.

In 1939, Otto Braun was sent to Whittinghame Farm School after he arrived in Britain via Kindertransport.
In late June, 1940, Otto Braun was arrested, and given over for special treatment, while some of his friends were sent to internment camps in places like the Isle of Mann.
He was sent to Glasgow as a prisoner.
He, and fellow Jewish prisoners, were marched through the streets of Glasgow, to be deported to Canada.
